No Shortcut To Solidarity

I don’t give a damn to

Your Eid Mubarak message

On the office WhatsApp group,

Or the obviously filtered image of

Chicken Biriyani on Instagram

With #nofilter #biriyani #happyeid.

I don’t care if you don’t use your surname

In your social media accounts

Or the photo of Ambedkar that you shared last month,

On 14th April, saying Jay Bhim.

Your Happy Women’s Day posts

Are meaningless.

So is your selfie with mom the last Mother’s Day.

I even feel

That the picture of you in your convocation robe

Holding your certificate with pride is worthless.

I reject you and all these illusions that you create of yourself,

Of showing solidarity, of being secular, of being inclusive.

Of being human?

Because all I can think of is your silence

When Akhlaqs are lynched and Arifas are raped,

When incidents like Una happens,

When students are beaten up, arrested, and charged with sedition,

When little children are blinded by pellet guns,

When migrant workers starve, and…

I refuse to believe you and your antics,

Because there is no shortcut to solidarity.
